about

I arrived just as the sun was setting, the neon lights were already pulsing. A sense of unease washes over me.
I am not the kind of person who is easily intimidated, but there was something in the air that felt unsettling, almost cult-like.
I shrugged it off telling myself that it was nothing.

As I made my way in, I was immediately swept up in the frenzied energy of the crowd. People whipping themselves into a hysteria, their bodies writhing and contorting as the music pounded through their veins.
The night wore on, and a macabre tone took place. Everyone started screaming and yelling, their eyes wild with a sort of madness.
It felt like I was caught up in some sort of twisted ceremonial rite, a rite of death.

And then, all at once, the veil was lifted and I saw the truth.

They were preparing for death.
They knew that death was ascending.
They were trying to call out to the mouth of god, to plead for mercy and salvation.

I watched in horror as people fell to the ground, their bodies agonizing and twisting as they cried out for mercy.
As the sun began to rise, I saw them rise again, their bodies battered and broken.
They had faced death and come out the other side.
Their dry, broken bones, a gruesome testament.

And now it was my time.
